Holidays can be stressful, and can make it harder to maintain recovery. There are meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and other 12-Step programs statewide. These organizations are non-political, non-professional, and are not allied with organizations, institutions, or denominations. - Moving Home Vouchers Available to Disabled Homeless
The Moving Home Voucher Program, a partnership with the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC), will help bolster supportive housing in Alaska. Nearly 150 Alaskans receiving Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS)-funded services in 12 communities across the state will receive rental subsidies this year in a new program. Supporting Local Homeless Coalitions
The research and planning staff of the Board helped the Juneau Coalition for Housing and Homelessness with survey-taking, data collection and analysis about the local homeless population. They used the Vulnerability Index (VI), a tool for identifying and prioritizing
members of the homeless population for housing according to how fragile their health is.
In Juneau, 40 of the 69 people surveyed fit the vulnerability criteria, and were 4-5 times more at risk for dying on the street. Read more about this effort on the Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness website.
