Healthy Alaskans Indicator Profiles - Progress Report

Progress Report

The purpose of this webpage is to provide brief reports on progress toward selected indicators from Healthy Alaskans 2010, Alaska’s version of the Healthy People 2010 initiative.

Healthy Alaskans 2010 was designed as a framework for realizing the goal of healthy Alaskans in healthy communities.  It consists of a set of objectives, indicators and targets for 2010 that, if achieved, would reflect improved health status since 2000.† This limited collection of indicator profiles provides a means for assessing progress toward a subset of the Healthy Alaskans 2010 targets.

The indicator profiles linked to this page were selected from the subset of Healthy Alaskans indicators that use the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) as the measurement data source.  Most are directly relevant to programs in the Section of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, although some were included because of their overall relevance and importance.

Each 2-page indicator profile includes the following components:

  • Why is this indicator important?
  • What is the trend for this indicator up through 2010?
  • Was the Healthy Alaskans 2010 target met?
  • How does Alaska compare with the US?
  • How are different population subgroups affected?
  • What is the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services doing to improve this indicator?
  • Indicator definitions, data sources, and references

Indicator profiles that have the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) as the measurement data source will be added soon.
