Making Decisions about Pregnancy

State of Alaska website created to provide basic, medically accurate information to help make informed decisions about pregnancy options: Informed Consent

Family Planning

We provide services and education that empower clients to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive futures, including pregnancy testing, hormonal and barrier contraceptives, and contraceptive methods counseling. Family planning services also include education, counseling, and referral for pregnancy options.

Family planning services are available to clients age 29 and under; call your local public health center for more information or to make an appointment.

General Resources

For Teens

In Alaska, all health care services offered at family planning clinics are confidential. This means that you don't need written permission from your parent or guardian to get services like birth control, annual exams, pregnancy testing and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It also means we will not share information with anyone about your visit unless you ask us to. However, we always encourage teens to talk with a parent or trusted adult about their health care concerns.

While all public health centers offer services for teens, including STI screening and family planning services, some health centers have special walk-in times specifically for teen clients. Call your nearest public health center for more information (Find a Public Health Center)
