Updated January 14, 2022

Due to a surge in COVID-19 cases and a shortage of resources within some hospitals, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) is supporting Alaska's health care facilities by working with statewide partners on multiple efforts. These efforts include assisting in coordinating patient transfers and resource allocation through daily calls, contracting additional health care workers, working with emergency medical services to alleviate hospital crowding, working with partners to recruit more certified nurse aides, streamlining background checks and activating the State's guiding document, Patient Care Strategies for Scarce Resource Situations (PDF), that includes crisis standards of carefor health care facilities.
