Child Care Program Office (CCPO)
About the Child Care Program Office The Child Care Program Office (CCPO) is the principal agency responsible for overseeing the functions of the Federal Child Care Development Fund (CCDF). Its primary mission is to ensure high-quality, accessible, and affordable child care services across the state. The CCPO plays a crucial role in several key areas:
1. Licensing and Regulation: The CCPO monitors, regulates, and licenses child care facilities to ensure they meet state standards for safety, health, and educational quality. This includes application processing, regular inspections, and compliance checks to maintain high standards in child care services.
2. Subsidy and Financial Assistance : The CCPO manages the subsidy program to provide financial assistance to families to help them pay for child care. This includes application processing for families applying for child care assistance and providers seeking to serve families receiving assistance . This ensures that providers meet necessary criteria and that eligible families receive the support they need.
3. Quality and Capacity Building: The CCPO administers funding through the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF), distributing grants to the Child Care Resource & Referral agency and directly managing the Child Care Grant Program. These funds are crucial for enhancing child care quality, expanding capacity, and ensuring accessibility for all families, especially those with infants, school-aged children, and children with special needs.
Through the Governor’s Child Care Task Force, the Alaska Department of Health is pursuing changes to CCPO to improve availability and affordability of quality child care throughout Alaska. Information about the CCTF and its recent reports and recommendations, please visit:
