Self-Measured Blood Pressure programs in Alaska

People with high blood pressure have higher chances of developing severe health complications, such as heart disease, heart attacks, vascular disease, and strokes. Fortunately, programs in Alaska can help people prevent or manage high blood pressure to live longer and healthier lives.

Self-Measured Blood Pressure (SMBP) programs teach participants skills to manage their blood pressure, including how to check blood pressure and learn what their blood pressure measurements mean for their health. Participants will learn how to control those measurements in several ways, including choosing healthy foods and drinks, being active, taking medications if appropriate, and managing stress. A health care team with the program is trained to help participants set, reach, and maintain their health goals.
