Partners in Policymaking

Work on this project has ended.

The Council is working with the UAA Center for Human Development, which manages the Partners in Policymaking project, to provide leadership training and support for people with developmental disabilities, parents, and family members. The overall intent is to achieve a productive partnership between people needing and using services and those in a position to make policy. Partners in Policymaking builds competencies so people can advocate for their own needs across systems (i.e. DD, education, vocational rehabilitation). It also builds leaders who have the skills to conduct public advocacy with the legislature, city, and borough governments, tribal councils, public groups, and trade associations.

Partners in Policymaking is funded by the Trust, designed for Trust beneficiaries and their families to gain leadership positions and develop advocacy and leadership skills to improve the lives of Trust beneficiaries.
