Ladies First helps eligible Alaskans get breast and cervical health screenings. Ladies First enrollees can get free mammograms and pap tests. Ladies First also pays for diagnostic tests when needed, and helps women get referred for financial support if they need treatment.

Thousands of Alaskans are eligible for a free Pap test and Mammogram.

You may qualify for Ladies First if:

  • You are an Alaska resident aged 21–64
  • You meet Ladies First income guidelines
  • You do not have insurance
  • You have a high insurance deductible you cannot pay, or
  • Your insurance does not pay for breast and cervical health screenings


To see if you are eligible for Ladies First, call 1-800-410-6266 and enroll over the phone.

  • Eligibility information will be verified over the phone
  • Documentation such as a social security number is not required
  • When you enroll in the program the Ladies First team will send you a welcome letter
  • A list of Ladies First health care providers will also be sent to you if you don't have a primary health care provider
  • Enrollments expire one year from the date you enroll. To re-enroll, contact Ladies First or your health care provider
  • If you have Medicare Part B, you are not eligible for Ladies First
  • LGBTQ+ Eligibility Information
    • Transgender women (male-to-female), who may have taken or are taking hormones and meet all program eligibility requirements, are eligible to receive breast cancer screening and diagnostic services through Ladies First.
    • Transgender men (female-to-male) may still receive cancer screenings through Ladies First if they have not had a bilateral mastectomy or total hysterectomy.
    • Talk to your health care provider about screening to decide if screening is right for you.

If you do not find a Ladies First health care provider in your area, you might be eligible for services through breast and cervical cancer screening program at one of the following organizations. Click the organization name for more information.

Ladies First Services

Ladies First can pay for approved screening exams. If any exam results are abnormal, Ladies First can also pay for approved diagnostic tests to rule out problems, including cancer.

Ladies First can pay for:

  • Breast Cancer Screenings
    • Clinical breast exam
    • Screening mammogram (for women ages 40–64)
    • Diagnostic follow up tests if results are abnormal
  • Cervical Cancer Screenings (for women ages 21–64)
    • Pap test
    • HPV test
    • Diagnostic follow up test if results are abnormal
  • Support if Diagnosed with Cancer
    If you are screened through Ladies First and cancer or a pre-cancerous condition is found, you may be eligible to have your treatment paid for by Medicaid. The Ladies First team will help you with the referral process to Medicaid.

Ladies First does NOT cover:

  • birth control
  • general bloodwork
  • the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections
