Every child deserves a safe and healthy start
Overview
The Child Care Program Office (CCPO) oversees the Federal Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) to ensure high-quality, accessible, and affordable child care across the state. Its work focuses on three key areas:
- Licensing and Regulation: The office monitors, regulates, and licenses child care facilities to ensure they meet state standards for safety, health, and educational quality. This includes processing applications, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with regulations to maintain high standards in child care services.
- Subsidy and Financial Assistance: Manages child care subsidies, which help families afford care while ensuring providers meet program requirements. This includes processing applications from families seeking assistance and providers participating in the program.
- Quality and Capacity Building: Through CCDF funding, the office distributes grants to the Child Care Resource & Referral agency and directly manages the Child Care Grant Program. These funds help improve the quality of care, expand capacity, and increase access for families, particularly those with infants, school-age children, and children with special needs.

Note: the State of Alaska manages child care licensing outside of Anchorage, but parents and providers in the Municipality of Anchorage should visit the MOA Child Care web site.
