Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special Education
Governor appointed commission
Who we are
The Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education (GCDSE) is a federally mandated Council that fulfills multiple advocacy and policy roles. We advocate for inclusive services, provide oversight, and support Alaskans in making informed decisions about education, employment, health, and community life.
We help make sure ensure that:
- People with disabilities have a voice in decisions
- Programs and services are accessible and inclusive
- Policies support self-determination and equity
What we do
Alaskans share a vision of a flexible system where people guide their own support, focusing on their strengths and abilities to live meaningful lives at home, at work, and in their communities. This vision includes supported families, skilled professionals, and accessible services statewide, both now and in the future.
Governor's Council on Disabilities & Special Education (GCDSE) provides a constructive process that connects the public with policymakers, to ensure the thoughtful development of an efficient and seamless service delivery system that meets the needs of individuals with disabilities across the life span.
