Older Americans Month: Aging Unbound - May 2023

Older Americans Month (OAM)

May is Older Americans Month in Alaska and a great reminder to recognize and celebrate the contributions and achievements of older Alaskans. This tradition is based on the Older Americans month celebration that began with President Kennedy in 1963 to honor older Americans. Alaska’s senior advisory commissions, senior centers, and other senior community organizations will be hosting special activities during the month of May to honor the value that older Alaskans continue to contribute to their families and communities.

Communities of Strength

Join us in promoting activities, inclusion, and wellness for older Americans in our communities. Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. The theme for 2024 is "Powered by Connection."

Older adults have built resilience and strength over their lives through successes, failures, joys, and difficulties. Their stories and contributions help to support and inspire others. This year, for Older Americans Month, we will celebrate the strength of older adults and the Aging Network, with special emphasis on the power of connection and engagement in building strong communities.
