Laboratory Testing for COVID-19

The Alaska State Public Health Laboratory in Anchorage and the Alaska State Virology Laboratory in Fairbanks are both testing for SARS-CoV-2 using the CDC's real-time PCR assay, Hologic's Aptima SARS-CoV-2 Assay, and Thermofisher's TaqPath COVID-19 Combo kit. Fact sheets for patients and healthcare providers are available in the links below.

Test Directory  Visit page 23 of our test directory for information about specimen collection requirements for SARS-CoV-2 testing.
Supply Request  Fill the form and fax to either laboratory to fill your needs for collection supplies. We also offer validation panels to users of the Abbott ID NOW SARS-CoV-2 assay to help in training and to provide confidence to your testing staff.
SARS-CoV-2 Test Request Form  Please use the request form for all SARS-CoV-2 requests.  Fill out the form completely and accurately.  The specimen should also have two identifiers that match exactly (ex. full patient name and date of birth) to the information on the form.  Any submission errors may delay testing.
SARS-CoV-2 testing by real-time PCR and Ct overview Ct values should not be used to determine a patient's viral load, how infectious a person may be, or when a person can be released from isolation or quarantine.  Click link above for more Ct information specific to SARS-CoV-2 testing in Alaska or here for CDC guidance for interpreting results of diagnostic tests.
Sequencing for SARS-CoV-2 in Alaska  Check out our guidance for specimen submission and learn more about next generation whole genome sequencing efforts in Alaska.
Alaska COVID Genomic Surveillance  Follow the weekly situation report to learn more about the different viral clades circulating in various regions of Alaska. For healthcare providers, please refer to our letter describing guidance on specimen submission for sequencing:
