Alaska Respond: Volunteers

Before volunteering...

  • Talk with your family about your role as a volunteer.
  • Develop a home disaster plan with your family, or significant others, and organize emergency supplies.
  • Discuss with your employer that you have volunteered with AK Respond.
  • Take advantage of trainings.

What situations could activate ALASKA RESPOND?

  • Disease Outbreak
  • Earthquake
  • Flood
  • Volcanic Eruption
  • Major Wildfire
  • Terrorism Event
  • Transportation incident

Any event which overwhelms local resources can be considered a disaster and volunteers will be asked to respond.

When volunteering you should bring...

  • AK Respond Badge
  • Picture Identification
  • Copy of your professional license
  • Go-Bag with personal items
    • AK Respond ID badge*
    • Second picture identification (such as Drivers License / State of Alaska ID)
    • Copy of professional license
    • Alaska Respond scrub top*
    • Bottled water
    • Clothing that is comfortable / can be layered - at least 1 change
    • Flashlight with extra batteries
    • Latex or vinyl gloves *
    • Outer wear as appropriate for the weather: Coat, Hat, Gloves, Boots
    • Packaged snack food (72 hour)
    • Personal care items
    • Prescription medications (personal) - 7 day supply
    • Shoes - additional pair
    • Sleeping bag (as necessary)
    • Smashlight*
    • Tumbler*
    • Watch (with second hand)
    • Whistle*
    • Paper / Pen
    • Cell phone and charger
