Overview

The following are links to cancer incidence and cancer mortality rate tables for the 1996-2020 diagnosis years. These data were generated using the statistical program SEER*Stat, developed by the National Cancer Institute. Rates are age-adjusted to the U.S. 2000 standard population. Each table gives rates, 95% upper and lower confidence intervals, and count of cases or deaths for each cancer site. To help ensure the confidentiality of cancer patients, data are suppressed for a given site if there are five or fewer cases.

Some tips to help understand these tables:

  • As counts of cases or deaths get smaller, the confidence intervals can get wider. This means the estimated rate for the population is less precise, so you should be careful when using and interpreting rates with wide confidence intervals. This often happens in groups or areas with fewer people, like small racial groups or small boroughs.
  • If there are fewer than 20 counts, the rate might not be reliable and should be used with caution since the results might not be accurate.
  • Sex-specific cancer sites are only shown in tables that are broken out by sex.
  • Tables that break out sites by sex only include estimates for males and females.
  • Tables broken out by borough are over 500 pages in length and will use a large amount of paper if the entire file is printed.
  • Starting in 2010, five new borough/census areas were added for southeast Alaska, and three census areas were no longer included.
