Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

The EITC is the most powerful tax advantage available for individuals with low income. It provides a direct tax refund for working citizens who are eligible based on a sliding scale of income. The EITC alone can provide a return ranging from $400-$4,400, which can be more wealth than an individual generates in six months.

To claim the EITC, you must file a tax return.

If you need help doing your taxes, you may be able to get help at a volunteer tax preparation site.  These volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS to prepare and e-file basic tax returns FREE OF CHARGE.  Find a list of volunteer tax preparation sites at Alaska 2-1-1 or speak directly with an Information and Referral Specialist live by dialing 2-1-1 or 1-800-478-2221 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
