The Physical Activity and Nutrition program:
- serves as a credible source of information to the public, health professionals, and the media about the causes and health and economic consequences of physical inactivity, poor nutrition and obesity;
- maintains systematic collection, analysis, evaluation and reporting of physical activity and nutrition behaviors and obesity prevalence;
- identifies population groups facing the greatest chances for health concerns related to obesity;
- develops partnerships with and provides leadership to a wide variety of private and public agencies;
- provides advice and support to partners implementing strategies to promote physical activity and nutrition and prevent obesity;
- manages the
Play Every Day campaign, community nutrition efforts,
Alaska Breastfeeding Initiative,
Activity-friendly Routes to Everyday Destinations,
Healthy Food Initiative, and the
Early Care and Education Initiative;
- facilitates the
Alaska Alliance for Healthy Kids to help every child grow up at a healthy weight free from preventable chronic disease.
