Who we are
Radiological Health is a program in the State Public Health Laboratories that ensures the safe use of radiation sources in Alaska.
What we do
Under Alaska Statute, the Radiological Health Program protects the public from radiation hazards by creating policies, conducting surveys, and offering training. This includes:
- Measurement and safe use of radiation
- Reviewing plans and shielding for radiation sources
- Inspecting facilities that use radiation
- Working with other agencies to address radiation hazards
These duties include both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, including radiation producing devices, and radioactive materials.
