Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS)
Collects pregnancy and early childhood data to improve the health of Alaska’s mothers and babies
Who we are
The Alaska Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) is a long-standing public health surveillance program operated by the Alaska Division of Public Health in partnership with the CDC. Since 1990, Alaska PRAMS has gathered data from mothers of newborns to understand and improve maternal and infant health outcomes across the state.
What we do
PRAMS collects population-based data on maternal attitudes, behaviors, and experiences before, during, and shortly after pregnancy. By linking these data with birth records, PRAMS identifies risk and protective factors, informs health policy and programs, monitors trends, and enables comparisons with other states. These data guide efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality, preterm birth, and maternal morbidity in Alaska.
