Alaska Cancer Registry
Collecting data on all new cases of cancer in Alaska
Overview
The Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) collects data on cancer across the state. Funded by the CDC, ACR tracks cancer cases, treatment, and survival to help improve care and prevention. This data supports health professionals, researchers, and public health efforts.
ACR meets national standards for accuracy and is Gold Certified by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).
Cancer is a Reportable Disease
The registry operates under several statutes and regulations required for mandated reporting of cancer and brain tumor cases in Alaska by pathology labs, health care facilities, or provider that diagnose, screen, or provide treatment for a cancer patient:
- Cancer Registries Amendment Act, Public Law 102-515
- Alaska Administrative Code 7 AAC 27.011 - Reporting of cancer and brain tumors
- Alaska Statutes Sec. 18.05.042 - Access to health care records

ACR Data Request FormCancer Reporting
Any pathology lab, health care facility, or provider that diagnoses or treats cancer must report the case electronically to the Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) within six months of diagnosis, screening, or treatment. Under HIPAA, identifiable cancer data can be shared with public health agencies.
A cancer cluster is when more cases of the same or related cancers occur in one area and time period than expected. These patterns may have shared causes or risk factors.
For questions about reporting or concerns about unusual cancer patterns in your community, please email cancerregistry@alaska.gov. You can also find more information on cancer clusters at the CDC’s Unusual Pattern of Cancer Homepage and the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Cluster FAQ.
Secure cancer reporting
Web Plus is a free, web-based tool for safely collecting cancer data. It is most ideal for small hospitals, health care provider’s offices, and other places that don’t have their own cancer registry. No software needs to be installed on your computer. Records are saved in a secure database. Cases entered by one facility are not visible to other facilities.
Cancer Registrar Training Resources
The Fundamental Learning Collaborative for the Cancer Surveillance Community (FLccSC) is ACR’s learning management system for NAACCR webinars and other related trainings. Each year ACR purchases the NAACCR Cancer Registry and Surveillance Webinar Series and makes it available through FLccSC each month to all registrars or hospital contractors that report cancer cases to the State of Alaska. Please register here if you need an account on FLccSC.
