Overview

The Alaska Health Analytics and Vital Records Section (HAVRS) Research Unit collects and manages data on important life events like births, deaths, marriages, and hospital visits. It also oversees data from the Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) and Medical Marijuana Registry. This information is shared with the public through reports and dashboards, and special data requests can be made.

Data & Statistics

Data dashboards

These offer an easy way to see and interact with numbers about high-interest topics. Current dashboards include:

Annual reports

We put out reports every year on Alaska vital statistics, the Health Facilities Data Reporting Program (HFDR), and induced terminations (medical procedures that end pregnancy) in Alaska. Recent Annual Reports include:

Special reports

These are reports that may be put out only once, or less frequently than once a year. Current special reports include:

Older reports

Reports older than 25 months can be found on the  State of Alaska Library Archives website.

Data availability

Data are available after collection, coding, and quality checks are completed. Release dates may change, and data can be updated without notice. You will always receive the most current version at the time of release. Preliminary data may be provided earlier at HAVRS's discretion.

Vital event data are typically available on a lagged annual basis

  • Induced Termination of Pregnancy: January to March of the following event year
  • Birth, Death, and Other Vital Events: October to December of the following event year

HFDR data are typically available on a lagged quarterly basis

  • Quarter 1 (Jan-Mar): July of the same event year
  • Quarter 2 (Apr-Jun): October of the same event year
  • Quarter 3 (Jul -Sep): January of the following event year
  • Quarter 4 (Oct-Dec): April of the following event year

ACR data are available on a two-year lagged basis

  • Cancer incidence and survival data: February to March two years following diagnosis year.
