Child Care Task Force
Making quality childcare more available and affordable across Alaska
Who We Are
Created on April 6, 2023, through Administrative Order 346, the Alaska Task Force on Child Care works with the Alaska Early Childhood Coordinating Council (AECCC). The Task Force's goal is to create a plan to make quality child care more available and affordable across Alaska.

What we do
The need for innovative and sustainable solutions in child care is critical.
The Task Force provided specific recommendations to address immediate challenges and provide a roadmap for resilient infrastructure, benefiting both working parents and licensed child care facilities. Key focus areas include removing barriers in rural areas and supporting the child care workforce for long-lasting improvements.
The Task Force outlined 56 recommendations across six areas:
- Streamline processes
- Expand licensing options
- Stabilize the workforce
- Improve accessibility
- Enhance affordability and sustainability
- Ensure quality care
As of January 2025, the Department of Health has already implemented 13 recommendations and is actively working on 21 others, including:
- Changes to state regulations
- Purchase digital fingerprinting equipment using ARPA funds
- Launch a new Child Care Information System for providers and families
