Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program
Helps to support high-quality healthcare in rural areas
Who we are
The Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (Flex) Program is a federally funded, state-run program that makes sure high-quality healthcare meets the needs of rural communities.
Alaska uses these funds to help small hospitals and rural EMS agencies. The money supports training and technical help to improve healthcare, encourage new ideas, and make sure rural health services stay strong.
What we do
The Flex Program provides technical assistance for critical access hospital designation, quality improvement and reporting, financial and operational stability and innovation, community health improvement strategies, and rural EMS sustainability.
We also support hospital reporting to the Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Program (MBQIP). MBQIP measures help small hospitals track and improve quality. Hospitals compare their results to national standards and similar hospitals. They use this data to plan and make changes that improve patient care.
