Diabetes Prevention Program
In-person and online support to make lifestyle changes and reduce risk
Overview
More than one in three U.S. adults has prediabetes, but 90% don't know it. This increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Prediabetes means blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet diabetes—and it can be reversed!
Alaska offers in-person and online Diabetes Prevention Programs (DPP) with health coaches, education, and support to encourage healthier eating, increased activity, and lasting lifestyle changes.
Who qualifies?
These programs are for people who are at risk of developing diabetes, including people who have prediabetes. In general, if you are at higher risk, you will qualify.
- Have a recent blood test showing prediabetes
- Were previously diagnosed with gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)
- Have a high-risk result on the prediabetes risk test (below)
