Overview

The Moving Home Voucher Program (MHVP) helps provide safe, affordable housing and support for people with disabilities who are moving out of homelessness or institutions, like hospitals or care facilities.

The program offers Permanent Supportive Housing. This means it combines housing vouchers provided through the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) with services provided with the help of a Sponsoring Agency.

Who qualifies?

Moving Home Vouchers have no time limit. To be eligible, a person must:

  • Have a disability as defined by the U.S. government or be a beneficiary of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority
  • Have a low income (less than half of the average for their area)
  • Qualify for long-term services, such as Medicaid
  • Be homeless, at risk of homelessness, or unable to find stable housing
  • Pass a screening by the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC)

How to sign up

Before you apply, you need to have a Sponsoring Agency. A Sponsoring Agency can be any organization that is able to provide -- or help you connect with -- the services and supports you need to live independently.

If you do not have a Sponsoring Agency:

  • Ask a caseworker at a community organization or agency you know. Provide them this page for information. We can answer any questions they may have.
  • Reach out to us at DOH using the contact info for this program below. We will make an appointment to help you find someone to work with.

Once you have a Sponsoring Agency, they will help fill out and submit the DOH MHVP Application Form.

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation program referrals are submitted using this form:

AHFC Form

Applications are reviewed in the order they are received until all vouchers are given out. Those who have applied will be told if they are approved or denied. Those who are denied can ask for a review.

How to use

A Sponsoring Agency agrees to:

  • Make a plan based on your needs
  • Submit housing application forms and assist with finding housing
  • Continue to provide or link to services as needed.

These services are optional. That means you can say no if you do not want help.
