National Family Caregiver Support Program

Overview

The National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) provides relief from emotional, physical, and financial stress experienced by family caregivers serving elderly individuals and grandparents raising grandchildren. The NFCSP offers five basic categories of services including:

• Information and Assistance to caregivers about accessing available services
• Counseling, support groups, and caregiver training to caregivers
• Respite care to enable caregivers to be temporarily relieved from their caregiver responsibilities
• Supplemental Services, on a limited basis, to complement the care provided by caregivers
  • Home modifications
  • Assistive technologies
  • Emergency response systems
  • Equipment/supplies
  • Legal services
  • Rent and utilities support

Who qualifies?

Eligible populations of caregivers:

• Caregivers of older adults, aged 60 or older, or persons with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder (regardless of age); and 
• Grandparent or older individual (55 years of age or older) who is a caregiver of a child (not their child) related by blood, marriage, adoption or is raising the child informally; who lives with the child and is the primary caregiver of the child
• Caregiver (55 years or older) of an individual with severe disabilities. A parent is an eligible caregiver.
