Overview
Food poisoning, also known as foodborne illness, is an infection or irritation of the digestive tract caused by consuming contaminated food or drinks. It's usually caused by bacteria, parasites, or viruses, but can also be caused by harmful chemicals.
Who qualifies?
Anyone can report food poisoning that occurs in the State of Alaska.
If this is a medical emergency, call 9-1-1 or get to your nearest emergency room.
How to report
If you have a medical emergency, please dial 9-1-1 or go to your nearest emergency room.
To report illness or issues after eating at restaurants or other places serving food in Alaska, outside Anchorage, contact the Alaska Division of Environmental Health Food Safety and Sanitation Program website, or call their office at 907-764-YUCK (9825)..
For illness or issues after eating at facilities in the Municipality of Anchorage (Anchorage, Eagle River, and Girdwood), please visit the Anchorage Health Department's Environmental Health Services website, or call their Food Safety and Sanitation Program office at 907-343-4200.
Please be prepared to provide the following information:
- Your symptoms
- Foods eaten in the days before your illness
- Names and locations where food was bought and/or eaten
