Overview

The Alaska Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is an annual telephone survey that asks Alaska adults about their health, as well as health habits that can affect their health. Data are made available to the public in several ways. Alaska BRFSS provides data through the online Alaska BRFSS Data Center, published reports, and specialized data requests.

How to request data

Specialized analyses or datasets can be provided by sending in a data request. If the information in the Alaska BRFSS Data Center does not meet your needs, please contact us at doh.brfss.info@alaska.gov.

When submitting a data request, be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Purpose of the data request
  • When you need the data
  • Year(s) of data being requested
  • Geographic areas of interest (e.g., statewide, public health region, behavioral health region)
  • Specific variables, populations, or topics of interest

Data requests are subject to approval. Staff response times depend on their availability and how complex a request is. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also provide statewide public use datasets for all 50 states and some territories.
