Request VPN
DOH staff and partners can apply for VPN access
Overview
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) helps secure remote internet connections.
The Department of Health (DOH) has unique security needs. Creating a VPN account for our department must go through the DOH Information Technology Services Help Desk (ITS). Our process includes extra steps that are not needed for all State of Alaska departments.
The DOH Information Technology Services Help Desk (ITS) makes sure that all requests go through the needed extra steps with the DOH Security Office and the state, using the DOH VPN request process. They will then set up your account.
Creating a DOH VPN account usually takes 5-7 business days.
Do not go directly to the state’s online Office of Information Technology (OIT) for this service. DOH ITS will work with OIT to manage your request.
Who qualifies?
DOH employees who work remotely and contractors for a DOH project or program may require a VPN account to do state work. To request VPN access, you must first be issued a State of Alaska ID.
Employees: Find your SOA ID on your timesheet.
Contractors: Ask your Contracting Officer to create an SOA ID.
How to sign up
Once you have an SOA ID, work with your supervisor or Contracting Officer to request VPN access using the VPN Request Form. Your supervisor or DOH Contracting Officer is responsible for managing the VPN request.
VPN Request FormYou (or the person listed as Supervisor on your VPN form) can expect to get emails during this process, as follows:
- Soon after your request, the ITS Help Desk will send an email from NoReplyHssServiceDesk@alaska.gov saying a service ticket has been created. This will include a ticket number. If this does not happen within two hours, email doh.its.helpdesk@alaska.gov.
- The state OIT Help Desk sends one email when your request is entered into its system, and it sends one when your VPN account is created. These emails will come from USD_No_Reply@state.ak.us.
- Soon after you get the email saying your VPN account is created, the DOH ITS Help Desk will follow up to help you.
How to use
After you receive a VPN account, review the instructions provided. Contractors will need to download a VPN client on OIT's VPN Configuration page.
Employees will be contacted by the DOH ITS Help Desk to get help after their accounts are set up. If you need help, email doh.its.helpdesk@alaska.gov.
