Adolescent Residential Center for Help (ARCH)

VOA Alaska’s Adolescent Residential Center for Help (ARCH) serves youth ages 13-18 struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. ARCH offers ASAM level 3.5 medium intensity residential co-occurring enhanced treatment program with a step down ASAM level 3.1. ASAM level 3.1 was added in July 2020, providing youth the opportunity to step down to a less intensive level of care while still living at ARCH. In this level, they will begin spending less time in structured clinical care and more time on activities geared towards successful integration back into their community. The length of stay is tailored to the needs of each youth based on initial and on-going assessment.

ARCH offers an array of services including substance use counseling and psychotherapy for youth and their families, psychological testing and evaluation, and psychiatric services. In addition, ARCH has an onsite nurse practitioner to address physical wellness and support in pharmacological management. To support client’s with their scholastic standing, ARCH offers onsite academic instruction through an Anchorage School District program, McKinley Heights High School. ARCH’s clinical model is rooted in strength-based approaches, trauma informed care, therapeutic community techniques and person-centered services. The clinical team consists of Recovery Coaches, Peer Support Specialists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, and Mental Health Clinicians who integrate best practices and evidence-based curriculums to meet the complex needs of adolescents.

The Therapeutic Community Model in our Milieu empowers our youth to practice skills related to leadership, job skills, and living in recovery. A major focus of ARCH consists of supporting youth in identifying replacement activities such as music, sports, the arts, outdoor activities, and sober parties. The ARCH team believes in the power of connection and utilizes the multidisciplinary team approach to support the youth in exploring ways to find meaning and purpose in their lives, while increasing valuable skills to reach their fullest potential. ARCH is passionate about helping youth and their families break free from the chains of addiction through services that uplift the human spirit!
