Services to Seriously Mentally Ill
The Services to the Seriously Mentally Ill Component provides funding
for a comprehensive array of services for adults with severe and persistent
(chronic) mental illnesses. These illnesses include schizophrenia, bipolar
disorder and major depression. Although these illnesses can be quite
debilitating, services provided throughout the state of Alaska give
individuals the opportunity to fully recovery, become functional members
of society and lead rich and fulfilling lives.
This component funds the following services within the state's
community support program (CSP):
- Outreach and client identification
- Case Management
- Medical/nursing and chemotherapy
- Vocational training and support
- Family and community education
- Peer support services
- Crisis intervention
- Residential services
- Psychosocial rehabilitation services
The intensity of the services varies by community, with the urban
areas having the most comprehensive service systems.
