Heating Assistance Program Issues Supplements to Last Season's Clients
The State of Alaska Heating Assistance Program is issuing a $790 supplement award to households who received a grant during the 2020 - 2021 heating season.
Most clients will see this credit on their electric account with the following exceptions:
- Any overpayments made to clients during the regular season will be recouped from the supplement by the Heating Assistance Program. These households may receive a reduced supplement or no supplement.
- If a client received a direct payment during the regular season, or they heated with wood, the supplement is being sent to them as a direct payment.
- If no electric account information was available on file for a client, the supplement is being sent to their heating vendor.
- If multiple households resided within one home and applied separately, each household originally received an equal portion of the total grant. The supplement will be awarded the same way.
Vendors have been instructed to apply the supplement as follows:
- As a credit to the customer's current account for future use.
- Toward an unpaid balance from the 2020 - 2021 season.
- Toward a past due amount (i.e., back balance) from any prior season.
The decision to send this money to electric vendors was based on comments received during our July public hearing and the fact that households can now apply for heating assistance for federal fiscal year 2022 which began on October 1, 2021 and will run through September 30, 2022 (the federal fiscal year).
These funds are not transferrable between family members, friends, or vendors.
These supplements are being processed in more than one batch. If you haven't seen a credit on your bill or received a direct payment by November 15, 2021, please e-mail the Heating Assistance Program at hss.dpa.policy@alaska.gov.
The FY 2022 Heating Assistance season is now open and accepting applications.
