Residential Licensing
Licensing, oversight, and monitoring of assisted living homes
Who we are
Residential licensing is responsible for licensing and oversight of assisted living homes in Alaska.
Safeguarding the Last Frontier
Our mission is to:
- Protect Alaska's most vulnerable citizens from exploitation and reduce their risks to health and safety
- Ensure public confidence in the health care and community service delivery systems through regulatory, enforcement, and educational activities
What we do
We accomplish our mission by:
- Inspecting licensed assisted living homes to make sure they follow state licensing rules
- Receiving and investigating complaints about resident physical, mental, and sexual abuse, financial exploitation, and safety and sanitation concerns
- Providing homes with notices of violation, when necessary
- Taking appropriate action when homes fail to come into compliance with state or federal law
- Making sure all service providers with direct client access have a background check
We are one of two units within Health Care Services that licenses facilities:

Centralized Reporting
Centralized Reporting makes it fast and easy for anyone to make urgent or required reports, including reports of harm in assisted living homes. It also helps make sure the reports get to the right people.
