Alaska Injury Prevention and Surveillance Unit
Help Alaskans prevent injury and accidental death
Who we are
The Injury Prevention and Surveillance Unit (IPSU) aims to enhance the health, safety, and well-being of Alaskans. We address factors that contribute to injuries and fatalities, as well as collect and analyze data across statewide surveillance systems. This data informs coordinated injury prevention strategies.
What we do
Key Functions of the IPSU:
- Data Collection and Analysis: The unit collects and analyzes data to identify injury trends. This data informs prevention strategies.
- Collaboration: The unit collaborates with key partners through the Alaska Statewide Violence and Injury Prevention Partnership (ASVIPP). ASVIPP unifies injury and violence prevention partners to amplify efforts across the state in six priority areas:
- Child Maltreatment
- Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
- Falls
- Motor Vehicle and Other Transportation-Related Injuries
- Suicide and Self-Harm
- Unintentional Poisoning
