Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program
Improve access to screening, prevention, and care for heart health in Alaska
Who we are
Alaska’s Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (HDSP) Program works to improve heart and brain health by helping Alaskans manage and prevent high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These conditions often have no symptoms but can lead to serious health problems if not managed.
Lowering blood pressure and cholesterol can
- Improve heart and brain health
- Save lives
- Reduce costly medical care
What we do
The HDSP Program focuses on:
- Educating Alaskans on the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco
- Connecting adults with programs to manage high blood pressure and other chronic conditions
- Supporting health care providers in improving screening, treatment, and management for heart health
- Expanding access to physical activity, nutritious foods, and smoke-free environments
- Monitoring and reporting heart disease and stroke trends in Alaska
