Infectious Disease Program
Protects and improves the health of Alaskans by detecting and responding to outbreaks of disease
Who we are
The Infectious Disease Program protects and improves the health of Alaskans. Our team is made up of professionals who are trained in applied public health and epidemiology (how health and disease affects people and communities).
We have nurses, physicians, data scientists, epidemiologist, and pharmacy and support staff. All of us are passionate about detecting and preventing infectious diseases. These are illnesses that can be spread from person to person, from animals to people, or through contaminated food, water, or surfaces.
Our program is one of four programs in the Section of Epidemiology.
What we do
Our program protects and improves the health of Alaskans by:
- Detection - Finding and responding to outbreaks of disease
- Monitoring - Keep track of disease trends over time
- Education and Consultation - Providing education and information about ways to detect, treat, and prevent infectious diseases in Alaska
