Office of Substance Misuse and Addiction Prevention (OSMAP)
Prevent substance use disorders and harm, support local activities, and strengthen public health systems
Who we are
Our team of public health professionals works to prevent and reduce substance use disorders, prevent harm from substance use, and support local activities across Alaska. Our services help protect the life, health, and safety of Alaskans. We focus on strengthening public health systems, services, and partnerships across the state.
What we do
Current activities focus on preventing opioid and marijuana misuse and addiction, collecting data, and making program and system changes to reduce harm. We promote prevention through policy changes, communication, education, and community interventions. We lead efforts to plan and implement evidence-based solutions. By sharing the best knowledge on substance use and addiction, we help Alaskans, health professionals, and community leaders work together. Our goal is to promote safe and healthy communities.
