Program designed to expand healthcare access in Alaska
Who We Are
Primary Care Office (PCO) helps to identify shortages of healthcare providers and shares information and resources for federal and state programs. These programs are used to expand healthcare access to areas with the highest needs in primary care, dental and mental health.
What We Do
- Primary Care Needs Assessment: a statewide evaluation published every
five years - coordinate federal Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) designations
- provide technical assistance on appropriate designations and related scoring of areas and populations which have too few healthcare providers
- provide technical assistance for Federal healthcare workforce programs
such as- National Health Service Corps
- Nurse Corps
- Indian Health Service
- J-1 Visa/Conrad 30
- National Interest Waivers
- maintain a comprehensive Safety Net Clinic Directory to assist with access to care.
- Assist the Community Health Center Senior Access Program grants for Federally Qualified Health Centers, which expands access to care for seniors over the age of 65 years
