Permanent Supportive Housing
Helping disabled people at risk of homelessness find permanent housing
Overview
The Permanent Supportive Housing team is a partnership between Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) and the Department of Health’s Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) to help people with disabilities find safe, affordable housing with support services to help them stay housed.
We connect rental voucher programs with community support services through Sponsoring Agencies, ensuring individuals get the help they need to maintain stable housing. Each program is tailored to address specific needs.
Who qualifies?
DOH offers several Permanent Supportive Housing programs. In general, the programs are for low-income people with disabilities who are at risk of being homeless. But each program is meant for people with different needs and has its own rules.
To find a program that is right for you, you can do any of these things:
- Visit our program pages, in Related Services below, to read the guidelines and see the applications
- Contact the DOH Permanent Housing team and ask us for help
- If you have a Sponsoring Agency, ask them for help
How to sign up
Before you apply, you need to have a Sponsoring Agency. A Sponsoring Agency can be any organization that is able to provide -- or help you connect with -- the services and supports you need to live independently.
If you do not have a Sponsoring Agency:
- Ask a caseworker at a community organization or agency you know. Provide them this page for information. We can answer any questions they may have.
- Reach out to DOH and we will make an appointment to help you find someone to work with.
Once you have a Sponsoring Agency, they will help fill out and submit the needed forms.
How to use
To use the programs, you need a Sponsoring Agency. A Sponsoring Agency can be any organization that can provide or link you to the services or supports you need to live independently.
A Sponsoring Agency agrees to:
- Make a plan based on your needs
- Submit housing application forms and assist with finding housing
- Continue to provide or link to services as needed
These services can be provided directly by your Sponsoring Agency or through other local organizations they work with.
