Specimen type 

  • Stool in Enteric Transport Media (ETM).  
  • Pure isolate submitted on Cary Blair Swab or Bacterial Transport Media 

Specimen collection instructions 

  1. Collect stool in clean dry container or on plastic wrap stretched across toilet.   
  2. Sample must be placed into ETM within one hour of sample collection. 
  3. Carefully open ETM, use scoop mounted in lid to place approximately a walnut size amount of stool into transport.  Add enough stool to fill exactly to red fill line.  Do not overfill.     

Note: Stool specimen should not be contaminated with water, urine, barium, antibiotics or mineral oil.

  • Maintain ambient temperature 

  • Package, label, and ship as UN3373 Biological Specimen, Category B OR Drop off specimens between 8am-3pm, M-F (excluding state holidays). 

  • Ship to: Anchorage Public Health Laboratory

Aeromonas species  Isolated/Not Isolated

A normal result is not isolated.
