• Haemophilus ducreyi is identified by MALDI-TOF at the Alaska State Public
  Health Laboratory - Anchorage

Routine testing   

Specimen type 

• Pure isolate on chocolate agar slant
• Amies Transport Media with Charcoal

Storage and transport  

• Ship ambient temperature (15°C - 25°C)
• Do not freeze
• Package and label as Biological Substance, Category B

Ship to Alaska State Public Health Laboratory: Anchorage, ATTN: Clinical Microbiology 

Results  

• Haemophilus influenzae
• Haemophilus ducreyi

A normal result is Not Isolated or Not Detected.

Turnaround time  

3-5 days after receipt

Notes   

• A laboratory that identifies H. influenzae or H. ducreyi must submit an
  isolate or an aliquot of the original specimen to ASPHL.
• Samples from sterile sites can be sent directly to CDC Arctic
  Investigations (AIP). Samples are shared between the two labs.
