Our mission is to provide to all eligible Alaskans access and oversight to the full range of appropriate Medicaid services. We also protect Alaska’s most vulnerable populations through our certification and licensing sections.

7/5 - DHSS Reorganization: Website Update
The Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) reorganization was effective July 1, 2022 and the DHSS webpages have been replaced with separate sites for the Department of Health and Department of Family and Community Services. Due to these changes, bookmarks are no longer valid and web searches may result in page errors.

All HCS subpages remain are available from the HCS home page. If you are unable to locate a HCS page, please contact Susan Dunkin at for assistance.

  • 5/20 - Do you have an employee who is working under a provisional background check clearance issued in 2020 or 2021 without fingerprints?

    If yes, the employee’s fingerprints must be submitted no later than August 1, 2022. If fingerprints are not submitted by this date, the application will be closed, the employee will no longer be cleared to work, and a new application must be submitted.

  • 2/24 - Background Check Process Reminders:Background check applications MUST be submitted via NABCS; paper applications are no longer accepted
  • Opioid Training/CEU Opportunity for Prescribing Providers
    New Alaska legislation requires a minimum of two hours of continuing education in pain management, opioid use, and addiction for prescribing providers.
